Description

On March 22, 1963, The Beatles released their first LP on Parlophone Records entitled Please Please Me. But on this day, only the Mono version of the album was put out for sale in record stores in the United Kingdom. It wasn’t until five weeks later, on April 26th that Parlophone made available (through special order for hi-fi enthusiasts) an exceedingly rare stereo version of the album with the 1st issue Black & Gold labels on both sides of the vinyl record, which is now highly coveted among collectors and is one of the most sought after Beatles records on the planet. The earliest version with those Black & Gold labels on the very first issue Stereo Please Please Me albums, with 6 “Dick James Mus. Co.” credits listed, were only available for a few weeks before some changes were made – and only 600 of these originals were pressed. These had the -1/1/G and 1-/1/R mother stamper numbers and tax code “ZMT” embossed into the label on side 1 near the spindle hole. The 2nd issue labels made corrections by turning 4 of the 6 Dick James credits into “Northern Songs Ltd.”, for the songs I Saw Her Standing There, Misery, Do You Want To Know A Secret and There’s A Place.

The stereo Black & Gold label Please Please Me album is one of the rarest Beatles albums in the world UNSIGNED and has extremely high value without The Beatles autographs on the cover. It is a major piece to have in any high end Beatles record collection and very few collectors can boast of owning this album in their collection unsigned and these sell well into 5 figures. Here is an original very first release Stereo Please Please Me 1st issue album cover (with the Angus McBean credit in the lower right-hand corner, aligned as it should be, to begin just below the end of the word “songs”) that has been autographed beautifully by The Beatles in black ballpoint pen. The signatures on this cover, which are all stunning examples and done as nicely as they could have on the day, were obtained between the dates of July 22nd through 27th, 1963, when The Beatles performed a series of live concerts at the Odeon Cinema in Weston-super-Mare, England. While there in town for the shows, The Beatles were staying at The Royal Pier Hotel. At the time the album belonged to a teenage boy who upon hearing that The Beatles were staying at this hotel, brought it there in the hopes to get it signed, and thankfully he was successful! This is an extremely rare Beatles signed Please Please Me stereo album cover – in fact so rare that it is one of only two known very 1st issue Stereo examples known – making this one of the rarest signed Beatles albums in existence. Of the two, this was one is not inscribed to anyone and it was signed much close to the release date, 3 months earlier than the other one.

As a special bonus, this signed album will come with another unsigned 1st version Stereo cover, the front of which can be used for side by side framing with the back of the signed cover, which would make for an amazing framed display. As of 2025, albums signed by all four members of The Beatles are nearly impossible to find, as 99% + are firmly placed in collections. This extraordinary rare signed Beatles signed album is one of two known first issue STEREO Please Please Me album covers known to exist – making this one of the rarest signed Beatles albums in existence – and the best of the best when it comes to owning The Beatles debut album Please Please Me autographed by the band.
