In April of 1963, the Beatles did their first, and last non-musical endorsement (other then their own merchandise) when they lent their name and likeness to Lybro Jeans – a Liverpool based jeans company that, through manager Brian Epstein were able to get the band on board with promoting their cheap and thin Empire denim jeans line. Very shortly after the April 11, 1963 release date of their third single “From Me To You”, The Beatles attended a photo session, although apparently quite reluctantly from the look of the shots that were taken on the day. The photos were then turned into drawings by the art department, and to each Beatles a quote was attributed as part of their ‘personal promotion’ for the jeans.
All four have autographed this sheet of Lybro stationery beautifully in red ballpoint pen, with George Harrison adding “Beatles” above his signature, and it is always a nice bonus when a band member writes this special word to an autograph set. Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr have both written “Love” before signing, and all four have added “XXX” after their respective signatures. The signatures were obtained on the day of the photoshoot for Lybro and they date precisely from this time. The sheet measures 7″ x 4 1/2″, and it has been torn horizontally and shortened a bit from it’s original height. Folds are visible, and this sheet would mat nicely to a nice, larger than autograph album page 6 3/4″ x 4″ when framed with the following: This Beatles signed sheet of Lybro stationery also comes with a rare original Lybro Jeans Beatles fold out brochure, on which are printed facsimile signatures (measures 14″ x 8 3/4″ in the open position), in addition to an extremely rare unused original perforated mail in card, and finally a separate one-sided promotional card advertising Lybo Jeans with an invitation to write in for a copy of The Beatles View Of The Merseyside Jean-Scene – which is the very brochure include in this package (4 /2″ x 6 1/2″).
