$17,500.00
Description
By the time the year 1966 rolled around, it was next to impossible for any fan to get close enough to The Beatles to directly obtain a set of autographs, making anything signed by all four in 1966 so rare that very, very few collectors can boast of owning an exceedingly rare and desirable 1966 Beatles autograph set in their collection. There are actually more 1967 autograph sets out there thanks to the two week period when The Beatles were traveling the English countryside in a bus in September of that year filming the Magical Mystery Tour movie. During this time, they were at times accessible to sign autographs.
All four have autographed this pale yellow colored autograph album page that measures 5 1/4″ x 3 3/4″ magnificently in blue ballpoint pen, with Paul McCartney adding “And” before signing. This set was obtained on August 17, 1966, when The Beatles performed live in concert at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, Canada, where they played an afternoon matinee show and also an evening show. It was signed for a Senior Officer with the Metropolitan Toronto Police, who was tasked with providing security for the band while they were there at the venue. In fact he knew The Beatles from the previous two times they played there, in 1964 and 1965, and by 1966, the third year in a row he was responsible for their safety, he had built enough of a rapport with them that he was able to ask for and receive this stunning set of autographs directly from them. It is a beauty in person and if you were looking for an incredibly rare 1966 set it would be really hard to top this one, as each has signed this page as nicely as they could have done on that day – which was only 9 days after the U.S. release of their masterpiece Revolver album.
