Description

Only 5 days after The Beatles month long tour with Helen Shapiro ended, and additionally another 3 concerts following in those 5 days (Saint Helens, Nottingham and Harrogate), The Beatles were back on the road again. Between March 9, 1963 through March 31, 1963, The Beatles were out crisscrossing England for their “Spring U.K. Tour”, a tour on which they played at 21 different venues in 23 days!. During this period, on March 22nd, their first album Please Please Me was released. On this tour the band started as a supporting act for American singers Chris Montez and Tommy Roe – but popular demand quickly flipped that around quick and The Beatles were closing the shows early on. The back cover of the concert program for this tour features four separate shots of The Beatles, taken by their friend from Hamburg Astrid Kirchherr in her attic studio in November of 1962, on The Beatles 4th trip to Hamburg very shortly after Ringo Starr joined the band. Although Astrid took some great shots of The Beatles in Hamburg, this was the only studio photograph session done by her and it later became referred to as “The Chair Sessions”.

All four have autographed this back cover beautifully in vibrant blue ballpoint pen near their respective image. The signatures date precisely from this period in March of 1963 and this is a great representative set of Beatles autographs from the time of the release of their first album – just as they were about set to begin their meteoric rise to worldwide fame. This signed back cover, which measures 8″ x 10 1/4″ has been cleanly removed from the rest of the program. There was a small area of tape residue on the far right side that has been expertly removed by a top paper restoration expert, and as well he has repaired a small (one half inch) tear on the right side. This great signed early Beatles image looks magnificent in person and it would make for a fabulous display piece. This is without question a very nice step up from a signed autograph album book page, for just a little bit more.
