Description

The Beatles were signed to Parlophone Records shortly after their June 6,1962 audition session at E.M.I. Studios. Their first formal recording session was held there on September 4, and on this day they recorded their first single Love Me Do. In early October, to coincide with the October 5th release date of the single, Parlophone Records produced and distributed two different versions of a photocard meant to promote The Beatles: one in a horizontal format and one in a vertical format. Each card featured a shot of The Beatles taken at the Love Me Do session by Iconic Beatles photographer Dezo Hoffmann.

Here is a rare October 1962 issue Parlophone Records promotional photocard, which measures 3 ½” X 5¾” and features a great Dezo shot of The Beatles on the front of the card from the September 4, 1962 session, posing with their instruments displayed in front of them. This is the first promo card to feature their newly inducted drummer Ringo Starr. All four have autographed this promo card beautifully on the blank back, with John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr using a blue ballpoint pen to sign, while Paul McCartney has signed with a blue fountain pen. Adding to desirability, both John and Ringo have added “XXX” after their signatures, with Ringo also writing “Love” before signing. The signatures date from early 1963 and each is an excellent representative example from the period. Having been well kept over the years, the card is in very good condition, with a slight horizontal crease visible on the front.

This is a scarce, desirable and now incredibly difficult to find Beatles signed Parlophone Records promo card that was autographed by the band as they were just beginning to make their way through a year that would see them quickly and sharply achieve a meteoric rise to unprecedented worldwide fame.
