Description

In the entire realm of RARE Beatles signed pieces, when there is only 2 of anything known – that is amongst the RAREST of the RARE! Here is a great signed album cover that falls into that category. It is an absolutely stunning Stereo copy of The Beatles magnificent “Rubber Soul” album – which was released in Great Britain on December 3, 1965 – one of only two signed “Rubber Soul” covers signed in the 60’s by all four at the same time.
This album was autographed for a then teenager, Brian Smith, who won a local radio contest to see The Beatles in concert and meet with them backstage! The meeting occurred on December 8, 1965 (just 5 days after “Rubber Soul” was released) when The Beatles performed live in concert at the Gaumont Cinema in Sheffield, England, while they were on their final ever U.K. Tour. Brian’s mother bought him this Stereo copy of “Rubber Soul” on the morning of the 8th, before the concert, for him to bring and have signed by the band.  Brian already had a “HELP!” album and he brought that as well. Additionally, he was able to get a 1965 U.K. tour program signed, as well as a foldout poster of The Beatles, both available at the venue. All four have autographed this “Rubber Soul” cover beautifully in blue fountain pen, with Ringo Starr adding “Love from the Beatles” and “To Brian” at the top. Paul McCartney has written “love” before signing and George Harrison added “love from” before his signature. The condition of the cover is near mint, and it is clearly evident that after it was signed, it was very carefully preserved. It comes with the original vinyl record, which is also in near pristine condition. It also comes with a detailed letter written by Brian Smith, who watched The Beatles signed this “Rubber Soul” album cover.
“Rubber Soul” is a brilliant and extraordinary Beatles album, and is widely considered to be a giant leap forward for the band – the moment that they transformed into serious, mature studio artists, with introspective adult songwriting, as well as expanded instrumentation and influences. To own one of only two known vintage autographed “Rubber Soul” albums is to have a significant Crown Jewel in any Beatles signed album collection.
